If your child wants to do research, do you advise him to follow your specialty of research?

Evaluate the child's interest & let him / her to develop & decide what research s/he likes to do.

Secondly, try to guide him / her on the research that s/he has the interest in. If the research is same field as yours then is easier, else you might need to do some personal research / getting some SMEs to guide your child. By the way, the child might be observant enough to observe what research you are doing & its outcome that might influence him / her as well.

Reason being the area that s/he has the interest or received proper guidance, potentially s/he will commit or put in more effort into it due to passion as well as persevere better when s/he hits roadblock in the research later.

Free hand should be given to a child to choose his/her line of career but a man with a successful career would like his child to take up his unfinished work and to ensure proper mentorship.

As a father which my loving care in his childhood & after the certain passage of his age he becomes my friend ,philosopher & guide & as such with this loving care he becomes so much closed to me that whenever he feels he comes to me for his problem & difficult of his study & even not hesitating to open his mind & heart for his personal problem .

With this it is a loving fragrance of his father s' care that the child become so much free even for his scientific approach & his study .

I did'nt. My children went their own ways, with and wthout academic science, successfully.

I am of opinion that parents should always give freedom to their children for choosing subject or discipline of their choice. If my child would be interested for research in my specialty, then I would permit him/her to proceed.

Not necessary I will let him/her to discover things he/she wants

There are basic steps for scientific method must every researcher applied it, but the the problem of research, question, hypothesis represent personality aspects and vary among researchers.

So, he must be free in his mind and his choices .
