To check the metabolites of blood , I want to use LC-MS/MS. So I want to know more about the sample preparation and is there any method to convert liquid sample into solid or semi solid form.
Why? Most chemists just do a liquid extraction (using a Thomas Stomacher) and get their molecule of interest. This extract they cleanup (ultrafilter, SPE...) and present to the LC (Liquid Chromatograph) and declare a 'WIN'.
If you try to remove the water, such as I did with plasma by lyophilizing (freeze drying) the resulting solid is a much greater volume than the origanal liquid. I should have known this from working with lyophilized serum albumin. You need to know something about the nature of your intended analytes including the expected concentrations.
