Greetings,

I am a PhD Scholar, I want to analyze the metabolites present in different tissues of bitter melon plant (Momordica charantia). I have grown the plants and I have the plant sample ready now for analysis. But unfortunately due to some university administration decision my department labs were shifted to a new building, hence there will be no lab work can be taken up for about 2 months from now. By that time, I may loose my crop in field as its season going to end.

Now, I want to store my samples (like fruits, leaves, stems, roots etc.), so that I can use it for seconadry metabolite estimation, bioassay studies and for other bioactive analysis later once the lab got established. I may be using instruments like spectrophotometer, HPLC or LCMS or GCMS for analysis.

I have following questions in my mind, kindly help me in this regard,

  • Whether as plant parts as such or in powder form or solvent extracted forms. How and in which form I should store my samples?
  • If it can be stored, what are the storage conditions that I have to consider. Is there any protocol ?
  • Does the storage affects the metabolite estimation and quantification in way.
