I want to do a fermentation test for my yeast to know if they can ferment glucose or not. After some study i found that phenol red broth might be the media for it. But the example that using that broth is commonly for bacteria. So i want to know whether it can be used for yeast and how to formulate one. It would be very helpful if you give the literature for the formula. Thankyou

For testing yeast contamination in fermentation broth - Tryptic Soy Broth is normally used and Phenol red Glucose broth is used for checking Bacterial contamination in the fermentation broth.
If you are trying to screen fermentative yeast , i would like to suggest to use YM (yeast malt) broth with inverted Durhams tube .
First u need to take a yeast containing sample, perform serial dilutions, then do spread plate culture on YMA and incubate at 28 degree for 48-72 hrs .
After incubation observe colony characteristics and do simple staining for yeast cell study .
Subculture best colony on YMA
Inoculate best colonies on YM broth and incubate it.
After incubation a potent fermentative yeast will surely give alcoholic smell, you can see co2 production and turbidity in broth due to growth of yeast cell.
