Yes, you can induce apoptosis in cardiomyocutes cells in vitro. If you do not want to use hypoxia, you can expose the cardiomyocytes cells with submillimolar concentrations of H2O2 (50, 100, 200 and 400 micromole) for few hours (2, 4, 8, 16 hr) and try to analyze the apoptotic markers (morphological, biochemical and molecular markers) including p53, DNA fragmentation in control as well as treated cells. You can use doxorubicin and isoproterenol. These are well-known cardiotoxic drugs causing cardiomyocytes apoptosis.
