Is it necessary to be in empty stomach of fasting( drinks) for at least 8-12 hours before lower abdomen USG? Or eating and drinking is allowed? why pressure in Urinary bladder (urination)is required in the lower abdomen Ultrasonography ?
For lower abdominal USG full bladder is mandatory. Otherwise, the pelvic organ (uterus ovaries in females and prostate in males) could not be seen properly. You can take food. So eating and drinking are allowed in lower abdominal USG.
In the case of the whole abdomen, eating is not allowed but drinking is permitted.
When the bladder is full, a proper evaluation of the urinary bladder can be done, as the bladder volume will be measured during the scan.Eating and drinking are not a problem
Fasting is not required for lower abdomen USG but full bladder is required for proper evaluation of urinary bladder & prostate in males as well as uterus ovaries and surrounding structures in females..
Fasting is NOT required, even if you are having an US guided procedure. A full bladder provides a water medium to allow improved visualization of pelvic anatomy by US. Sound traverses the liquid medium better than all other substances and air/gas in the bowel interferes with sound waves, so a full bladder fills the pelvis with fluid creating a better "window" to see through.
It's not necessary to fast before lower abdominal ultrasound scan to be performed. You just need a full urinary bladder for such investigations, therefore the need to drink enough water to fill the urinary bladder.
