I am working on ansys apdl. I got the convergence error due to high distortion of some element in the 1st sub-step of Temperature loading(to recover plastic strain).
i refine the mesh and also increase the sub-step, error remains same.
I made some of mid lower nodes fixed and applied the displacement of 5mm on both ends (to widen the gap ) as shown in attached fig.
Try changing element formulation type alongside of increasing the number of steps.
in abaqus we use ALE for such problem maybe there is something similar in ansys.

Actually the convergence problem arises in the very first sub-step of load 3, i tried with increasing the number of sub-step but again solution not converge in first sub-step of load 3.

It seems (from the image) you are using tetrahedral elements. Are these elements formed using 4 nodes. If yes, try replacing 10 node tetrahedral element with selective reduced integration or better try using hexadral element (Brick 8 elements with selective reduced integration or Brick 20 with reduced integration to avoid locking).

Instead of increasing the substep for a load step, increasing the load steps is much more useful in nonlinear problems. Therefore, I suggest you to split third load step (thermal loading) in the problem instead of increasing the substeps of that load step.
