Hello, dear colleagues,

I would like your help in finding a reference that provides an average water savings due to plastic recycling compared to the consumption of virgin materials, preferably for Brazil or Latin American countries.

1. In the article "The Zero Waste Index: A Performance Measurement Tool for Waste Management Systems in a 'Zero Waste City'" by Zaman & Lehmann (2013), Table 1 presents a negative value for water savings in plastic recycling compared to the consumption of virgin materials, of -11.37 kL/tonne (water saving) for the cities of Adelaide, San Francisco, and Stockholm. However, I am unsure if this value is still current and if it could be applied to Latin American countries, as it implies that plastic recycling uses more water than the production of virgin plastic. Is that correct? (I have contacted the authors to clarify this point but have not yet received a response).

2. Could anyone point me to another reference on this topic?

Thank you in advance for your assistance!
