This is the first time I will be culturing BV2 cells although I have worked with SH-SY5Y previously. I am looking to find out how long BV2 take to divide and therefore when they need to be seeded into a new flask? Typically with SY5Y in the past I could seed them at about 5000 cells/ml and they would happily survive with a few media changes until I split them 10-14 days later. How would BV2 compare to this assuming I split them at the same concentration?

I would usually split them after 2-3 days, at a similar concentration.

In 10% serum and 1% antibiotic supplemented DMEM, 3.5*10^6 cells will become confluence d within 48 h. After then the cells will start to die. So that it is needed to sub-culture the cells within 48 h.
BV2 cells divide very fast. I usually Split them each 2-3 days, too.(10% serum and 1% antibiotic supplemented DMEM)
I agree that BV2 cells divide very quickly, a low split can lead to confluence again 24-48hrs. As an additional point, BV2 cells seem rather prone to lab-to-lab variation, which can make reprodubility an issue! If you can, I'd go with primary microglia if possible.
