I am about to start Investigating transcription Regulation with miRNA and I am particularly interested in the question how miRNA come to upregulate gene Expression. Does someone have an idea or has an article to consider?

The logical way I can think of is miRNA down regulates or blocks the repressor that in turn regulates the target the gene
miRNAs play important roles in post-transcriptional gene regulation by targeting mRNAs for cleavage or repressing translation. miRNAs are the class of endogenous, small, non-coding, single stranded RNAs located mostly within non-coding regions of the genomes and usually transcribed from RNA polymerase II promoters.

You have asked a very important question which all the molecular biologists think at least once, and I am very happy to add to the wonderful trains of thought by Ravi and Hemant.
Exogenous or alien miRNAs also add to the tally of circulating miRNAs and can affect the functioning of genes.

Hi guys,
I am really thankful for your interest in that topic and I have to say that miRNAs are getting more important if studying gene Expression. I came across to a paper where miRNA-373 is involved in induction of two genes and the authors showed that it was through binding of the miRNA to the promoter Region of respective genes. However, Ravi´s thoughts are still a good Explanation and we discussed this in our Group. Have you ever heard about an RNA-Chip Assay concerning an interaction Analysis between miRNA and the GoI or the mRNA?
