We are analysing the demyelination and remyelination of the optic nerve using OCT. We wondering how to do the proper read out. We are not sure if the higher the hole is the bigger the demyelination is, or the contrary.

Myelination of the ganglion cell s axons begins after lamina cribosa sclerae. Therefore, the size of optic nerve cup depends only from amount of living axones, but not from their mielinisation.

Usefullness of OCT has been studied in demyelination especially in MS patients. OCT appears to show promise in predicting ongoing atrophy of brain. presently it is not used in routine clinical practice
