Hi every one. I have some data on antioxidant activity that are presented in iu/mg protein. But according to the methods I have worked on, my data are in enzyme specific units (for example: apsorbance changes at 290nm/mg protein). So how can I change the international units (iu/mg protein) to desired units?
SOD: unit/mg protein
CAT: absornance changes at 240nm (delta 240)/mg protein
APX: delta 290/mg protein

At present the definitions of enzyme units including international enzyme unit are crude and need a revision. they vary from context to context. So it is really difficult to convert the enzyme unit into antioxidant specific unit. Conventional practice to present the amount of enzyme present in unit mg of protein sample along with the activity of enzyme, which may be defined suitably at the ease of experimenter and represented accordingly.

To clarify my question, my point of view is how can I convert IU/mg protein to:
u/mg protein for SOD (Giannopolitis and Ries, 1977)
absorbance changes at 240 nm/mg protein for CAT (cakmak and horest 1991)
absorbance changes at 290 nm/mg protein for APX (Nakano and Asada 1981)
Hi there,
1 IU represents the amount of enzyme needed to observe the consumption of 1µmol of substrate per minute. So what you have to do is to convert each of the activites using specific epsilon and beer's law (at least for CAT and APX).
