I want to prepare five soil samples with incremental water contents starting from zero percent up to 100 percent. As I want to calibrate and validate capacitive soil moisture sensor SKU:SEN0193
I have dried the soil In the oven, but I am not sure how to add the water to achieve the required gravimetric moisture content by mass Not by volume.
Do I just calculate as if I need 100g/g of moisture content so I add 100g of water for every gram of soil (brown clay).
And I am mixing the soil in a pan by hand.

@ Tamara, you are correct, gravimetric water content (θg) is the mass of water per mass of dry soil. It is measured by weighing a soil sample (mwet), drying the sample to remove the water, then weighing the dried soil (mdry). The density of water is close to 1. You may use the tensiometer for moisture content.
