Let's say you want to get a new FIB/SEM with the capability of 3D EBSD and EDS analysis in a fast way with a proper resolution.
Which detectors you choose to be user friendly (when it comes to the data collection and analysis softwares) and also automatic functionality.
Or maybe it is better to ask, which one you do not buy from !?
I can not comment on Bruker but I have used both EDAX and Oxford systems for EDS and EBSD. I found the EDAX system/software easier to use but I think it often comes down to personal preference.
You should ask for demonstrations on each platform from the manufacturers. The sales teams will be pleased to arrange this for you as they all want the sales. I went through a similar excersise a few years ago when specifying new SEM and EDX system with Oxford, Bruker and Thermo.
A lot will depend on your budget as these are often modular systems with added software functionality at additional cost. Are you purchasing the SEM at the same time?
Consider not only the functionality but also the stability of the software, the aftersales expertise from the applications experts, availability of service engineers, maintenance costs. This is best done face to face with the supplier.
