I would like to know whether blockade of internal carotid artery using a Bulldog clamp or ligation of internal carotid artery a valid mode for Stroke? Does this method make it superior to mechanical occlusion of middle cerebral artery using a nylon suture or filament?? please help me
No it is inferior, because if ,ou just occlode the ICA there will be collateral flow to the MCA. So a stroke is not necessarily produced.
Hello there. I'm not sure which species you referring to, but it doesn't really matter, as stopping the flow in a single ICA in rodents, rabbits or large animals usually doesn't result in stroke. There is usually sufficient circulation via the Circle of Willis etc. You will usually require a thrombotic component.

Within my experience, in vascular trauma, involving young healthy patients, who were expected to exhibit good collateralization, ligation of the ICA/ CCA proved to be intolerable and resulted in stroke. Modern damage control surgical advances have provided us with intravascular shunts, an alternative to ligation that can provide a time window for optimization of general condition, in preparation for definitive repair.
In youngs patients with patency of the circle of Willis ligature of the internal carotid artery ( for trauma) dont provoque a stroke. In old patients presenting an intracerebral atheromatous disease ligature of the ICA could provoque an hypovolemic stroke.
