Due to global climate change, it has been observed that there is un-seasonal rainfall. Hence it is very much required to ascertain the change point in rainfall pattern as well as shifting in rainy day. The detailed protocols for analyzing the same may be shared.
To measure the quantity shifting of Flash rain fall it depends to a specific geo region. Which may provided by WMO by predicting modelling .
Further more in my research as for Non costal Flood control and management, I estimated hypothetically 130million Liters/Flash rain/Km2/ 24h.
You can check the seasonality of 1day max rainfall and try to find the median Julian Day. And then see if it shifts over the years using theil sen or other methods. You can check the works of Bloschl et al. They did something similar as far as I recollect.
It seems to me the most well-accepted protocol to follow would be one that has been established for the general type of seasonal rainfall pattern that occurs in your area of interest (e.g summer dominant rain or winter dominant rain?).
As a starting point to help guide with choosing more detailed analysis techniques, perhaps plot graphs of cumulative rainfall vs. time for 1 year periods; with one graph line for each year (horizontal axis 1 to 365 days; vertical axis cumulative rainfall; perhaps normalized for each line to value 1.000 at day 365). Do these cumulative lines have a different shape for earlier years as compared to later years?
