It definitely helps..in fact i have checked some sequences, and the eaat-1 and 2 and the GS are fairly conserved (about 50% protein identity between drosophila and mouse) but i have seen that the only antibody used for glial cells in drosophila or honeybee was repo (reversed polarity)..so I was hoping someone had used some typical gfap antibody...but i guess i may have to try them..
Repo is deemed as a glial marker in Drosophila. Though it doesn't label all the glial cells. In Drosophila, folks usually use the Gal4/UAS binary system to express the GFP to label repo expressed glia and other types of glia. However, the other types seemed not have a specific marker as repo type do.
Hi monalisa..does it really? So it may work for honeybee as well..is there any brand of antibody you like? Have you published anything with gfap staining in insects?
The GFAP is from Abcam and it is a rabbit one. For Drosophila the dilution is 1:500 or 1:1000. It depends how you preserve your sample. Most Antibody which stains in Drosophila also gives good staining in bee. Example Na/K ATPase, DE cad,Alpha spectrin. I believe this GFAP will stain in Bee as well. Just try
