A collaborator sent us his protocol in order to be able to use his immunohistochemistry kits.
But one step contains PBS + 0.3% H2O2 + 0.1% sodium azide.
Knowing the dangerousness of sodium azide, I ask myself the question of the relevance of this step and if PBS + 0.3% H202 alone would not be sufficient?

Dear Tourneur-Marsille Julien, what is the danger you are afraid of NaN3? What about that of H2O2? Do you know the resultant of such three components combination. My Regards

Yes I had the same conclusion.
I had read articles that said sodium azide inactivates HRP (horseradish peroxidase). I told myself that it was for double effectiveness against endogenous peroxidase.
But I tell myself that H202 must be enough.
@Abdelkader, For me sodium azide is dangerous (mutagenic and toxic), it releases toxic vapors in particular. This molecule is absorbed through the respiratory tract, skin and digestive tract.
So if you can do without it, you might as well avoid it.
Yes, you are right. What I want to know is that not because of its 'danger' it should be avoided, if so H2O2 is may be more nocif. If it is used only for the purpose of inhibitory of peroxidase conjugates, it is recommended to avoid it in some techniques such as ELISA. Please have a look at the following free access paper.
