The integration of foreign DNA into the target genome depends on the viral vector used for the transduction. For example, a lentiviral vector will generally integrate your insert into the target genome while an adenovirus will not.
About the selection method, it depends on your use case. Generally speaking, it’s better not to expose your cells to antibiotics, but sometimes it’s just much more convenient, fast, and cost effective to do so. Plan your experiments accordingly.
