Hello! Currently I propagating my SP2/0 for hybridoma. It's a first time when I working with this line. According to ATCC this line must grow in suspension, but when I'm doing my daily observation of flask, I can see some "islands" of adherent cells. They have no differences in morphology (shape, size etc).
Could it be cross-contamination or such behaviour is quite normal for this line?
I think it can be normal. Is your flask tissue culture treated? You could test it by pulling some of the suspension cells away, and growing them separately. If they re-attach, it's probably just something your particular population likes to do. If they don't re-attach, well, you just purified them.
Id agree with John, and they are also oncogenic so the potential to be more 'sticky' is there.
Id be surprised to have a similar morphology cell contaminant that is growing well in that flask without being immortalised but you can always reach out to the ATCC to check the query
