I am looking for the mRNA expression of a particular gene which according to literature has dual role, tumor-suppressor and pro-oncogenic, now i want to compare the mRNA level of that gene in normal and cancer cell line. I am working with LUAD, but I m not getting normal lung cancer cell line. SO can i do the comparison of LUAD with HEK293 as both are epithelial cells?
In GDC-data portal (https://portal.gdc.cancer.gov/), you can fined LUAD molecular data from TCGA project. For mRNA expression levels, RNAseq data of tumor and adjacent normal samples available. In each samples more than 20,000 genes are there. You can use these data for your analysis, to validate HEK293 cell lines can be used.

WI38 would be the proper control cell. However HEK can also be used if you dont have WI38 or some other normal lung cells.
In general each tissues express a different receptors and different kind of proteins from one another. Sometimes in the same tissue there are variations. Hence it is not recommended to use different cell lines of different origin. HEK 293 is originated Kidney where as A549 or other are originated from Lungs. You can compare with normal lung cell lines. Please find attached image for your reference.
