i would be glade if some one could explain to me the difference between creating a solid composite layup and continuum shell lay up
(1) How are the plies are assigned to the element in the thickness direction in solid layup ,?does all the plies are assigned to each element in the thickness direction ?
i m modeling(file attached) two composite laminates one has 4 plies and the other has 36 plies using solid composite layup(soild elements c3d8rc3) ply thickness is .12mm.
how i m going to do it does i need to partition it (36 partition for 36 plies) in the thickness direction ?or
what should i do for the same layup in CONTINUUM shell elements?
if some one can share a tutorial or file showing the difference i would be glade

Thank u sir...I m using abaqus software. ..can u tell me how I have to define solid composite lay up in laminate by partitioning ii in to 36 region for 36 ply or just assign it in composite layup
