hello every one....
i m modeling delamination using a zero thickness cohesive element in Abaqus .
consider two plates and a zero thickness cohesive element in between them..
i create an orphan mesh part from one of the plate and assigned it cohesive properties OR should i create a separate part for cohesive element and then later edit the nodes,,i have tried both method but the result is completly different from each other.
if there i any other way to create zero thickness cohesive element give me some details

there is two method to define cohesive in CAE :1-element based, 2- surface based
In element base method, it is needed to create a part and assign a small thickness to it. I suggest 1e-3 or 1e-4. be careful it can decrease stable time because of characteristic length size. In surface based method, you should use interaction option (interaction modulus==>interaction properties==>contact==>cohesive behavior)

BUT I NEED TO CREATE ZERO THICKNESS COHESIVE ELEMENT ANY IDEA HOW TO CREATE THAT AND ALSO TO DETERMINE THE STIFNESS OF COHESIVE BASED ON THE VARIATION OF LENGTH OF THE COHESIVE ZONE

First create a finite thickness element. Assign properties and element type to it. After meshing edit mesh and shift one face of cohesive element nodes on top of each other face nodes to create zero thickness element. Hope this helps.

sir in this method u described should i use offset or edit coordinates for shifting the nodes from one face to other,,,,the problem occue here is the penetration and shearing of the cohesive elements,,,the two laminates penetrates the cohesive sufaces,,,any idea how to prevent that?

The most convenient way I have found is by using LS-PrePost, a free software by LSTC. Before this function was released at 2016 I have been coding my own MATLAB program to generate zero-thickness cohesive element. LS-PrePost is a pre-processing and post-processing tool for LS-DYNA, and it can also import mesh from Abaqus.
The process is very simple. I have made two videos about how to do this and attached with the answer.
