Yes you can get to callus growth. This method called suspension culture. This method gave fragile callus. Callus in this method gave embryonic callus. This is best method to production of somatic embryos from callus culture.
Its better and the best you can use shaker with 50 RPM with little of 2,4-D concentration (0.1- 0.5 mg/l) to get friable callus for embryogenesis induction. this is for general concept.
Actually this is will depend on auxin type, 2,4-D will give you yellow friable callus then embryo, TDZ will give you more compact callus with green color, NAA will give you more white compact callus. But before that you should make sure that your plant has already have ability to embryo induction.
Try to collect fresh callus by peeling hard callus ( about 4-5 mm size) and inoculate into liquid media on shaker. did you check ability of embryo induction of your plants in previous researches? what is the plant that you work on?because many plants has easy ability for callus induction but without ability of embryo induction.
