I have a basic question about fatigue tests. I am trying to design a set of experiments using cyclic loading of compact tension experiments. I have 5 specimens with different grain sizes. These 5 specimens have different crack growth rate. I also believe that the number of cycles needed for nucleation of a crack should also be different. Does anybody how I should design my experiments to observe the differences. Does the variation of Delta(sigma) help to reveal the differences? I know that the CT specimens are designed to measure the crack growth rate and not nucleation of a crack. Does anybody know what can I do?
