During animal cell culture, confluent cells are trypsinised, centrifuged, resuspended and finally subcultured. I read somewhere that contact inhibition is used to make the cultures synchronous. Does that mean that subculturing after full confluency increases the chance of the culture becoming synchronous?

Cell culturing should be done very gently and passage number is varied among the cells. To be precise, culturing over 70 passages should not be considered healthy as the morphology of the cells changes. Also, each sub-culturing should be carried out at 90% confluent cells. good luck.
depending on cell type, leaving cells at 100% confluence will cause them to become quiescent, entering the G0 phase. another strategy is to synchronize by keeping cells in serum free, or serum reduced (.1-.2%) media. this paper may be helpful.
