Forgive me for being Naive.

I have read that the postprandial concentration normally doesn't go above 140mg/dl, anything above it is considered diabetic.

Then why do researchers use very high glucose concentration like 16.5mM ( 300Mg/dl) or 25mM..approx 450mg/dl, in few of them i have even seen 55mM (1000mg/dl) to study diabetic mechanisms? does the glucose conc in diabetic individuals really go that high?
