When performing academic research there are lots of electrodes available from disk electrode, rotating disk/ring disk electrodes, screen printed electrodes, MEMS/Semiconductor fabricated electrodes, PCB fabricated, ablated/ vapour deposited electrodes. The problem with electrodes that are fabricated or manufactured for research is that they are intended for research. In many electro-analytical experiments the ultimate goal and argument is that the research is being carried out in order to solve a problem outside of the lab.
I do feel that one of the problems in academic electro-analytical research is that screen printed electrodes offer a great way of scaling the research out of the lab, but the irreproducibility of the screen printed electrodes is holding back the translation of the science, we will discuss this in the link, but please add your thoughts to this.
I will give my thoughts here - https://www.zimmerpeacock.com/2024/07/27/are-electrodes-for-research-holding-back-the-science/
