I am using ethanol as part of the extraction process of Chlorella vulgaris carbohydrates. Since I am trying to scale up a bit the whole process, I should use much more ethanol, that in this time is not really easy to get in high quantity.
Therefore, I was wondering if you have an alternative reagent or process to suggest, more economically feasible but still efficient.

Microwave-assisted acid hydrolysis gives a very high carbohydrate extraction yield. Sonication can considerably reduce the extraction time and further increase the extraction yield. You can also use ionic liquids as suggested in the attached document:

Isopropanol is a good choice from the point of view of extraction efficiency, but from an economic point, it is a disaster, please see the development of isopropanol price in the attachment.
