I have analyzed 100 ug of mineralized asbestos fibers (volume: 50 ul) diluted up to 500 ul. After analysis on ICP-MS, I obtained X ppm of Mn. Then, I analyzed 50 ul of lung homogenate obtained by a mouse exposed to 100 ug of the same fibers, diluted up to 500 ul. By ICP-MS analysis, I obtained Y ppm of Mn. Now, if possible, how to calculate the actual mass of fibers in the lung homogenate? Do I need to know the exact chemical formula of the fiber? Thank you.
You woiuld also need the fraction of fibres to total mass of the homogenate and amount of manganese from sources other than the fibres in tissue.
you know the mass concentration of manganese per fibre experimentally so you do not need molecular formula- assuming fibres used are the same.
