Cyanobacteria like Nostoc will fix its nitrogen in Open free living condition. Will the same phenomena applicable in limited flask condition as well. At-lease in microlage beyond three days drastic changes will happen? no fresh cell division ofcouse with enhanced lipid?
Could some one specifically point out "cyanobacteria in Medium without nitrogen source- NO3 or Ammoncal form"

1. N being a essential part of DNA and Protein, It is essentially required.
2. IN the absence of N, how the cyanobactera could get it. Through bilogical N fixation (Like legume plnats).
3. What happens to its metabolism and its cell division? like how long it takes to divide to give new daughter cells.
I m just curious to know..i am interested to study those aspects..as I am specialized in bacterial cell division- molecular level.

Yes. A number of filamentous Cyanobacteria fixes atmospheric nitrogen, ex. Nostocales. They have specialized cells called heterocyclic that are either present constituivly or are formed in response to dissolved nitrogen deprivation. Those cells assimilate atmospheric nitrogen and convert it to utilize in metabolic processes.

Yes. Grow them in BG11o, a nitrate-deprived version of BG11, and see heterocysts form and culture grow
