I'm making a stock of O'Farrell solution for SDS-PAGE gel casting. The recipe calls for 1.5M Tris pH 8.8 and 0.4% SDS in water, final pH 8.8. Each time I or a lab-mate try making this solution, we see a cloudy precipitate/swirl (the SDS?) appear that does not disappear with changing pH or temperature.

We've tried making the solution using stock 20% SDS (pH 7.2) and stock 2M Tris (pH 8.8), as well as using the powdered form of each with the same result each time.

(Both stock solutions are clear and this is being done at room temperature; we've used the same recipe before, and it worked then....)

Thanks!
