I'm doing a MD study about DBD of Glucocorticoid receptor. Why do it have two Zn motifs ( protein chains)? Both have same function or different functions? What is the importance of having two chains?
DNA sequence recognized by GR is a palyndrome. One zinc finger of GR DBD is in charge to specifically bind one repeat motif. The second zinc finger acts in the dimerization of activated GR. The dimer formation allows the efficient binding to the 2 repeat motifs of GRE.
