Can anyone explain why a gradient gel (bought from BioRad) would turn white when put in Coomassie staining solution? I have never had this problem before with gels. I have always added the staining solution, heated it for 30 seconds, and let it sit for a little bit, and then transfer over to destain solution and heat it the same way. I always get excellent results with previous gels I have used. I have never had my gels turn white, but with these gels they do. Does anyone know what the issue might be? I rinse my gel in water before I put it in the staining solution as well.
one of the reasons that gel turns white is the high concentration of Bis. It seems your Bis has expired.

you're right Phani kashyap S . I don't pay attention to that part. I think it is better to make a fresh coomassie solution and try again.
Thank you for all the answers. I did make fresh Coomassie solution and used ethanol instead. It worked beautifully!
