Why do we need a additional cell zone around the body (void) on which we want to apply SDOF solver in FLUENT. Why cant we just create a negative volume of that body in the fluid domain and apply SDOF to the fluid_body interface?
It is not necessary to create a void around the body. But in cases when the cylinder amplitude is more than 1D, then due to re-meshing phenomenon, there is chances of mesh instability and negative volume.
What do you mean by creating NEGATIVE VOLUME of that body in the fluid domain?
Thanks for replying Niaz Bahadur Khan. I have basically created a fluid domain and a turbine and subtracted turbine from fluid domain, which gave me a negative volume in the fluid (turbine shaped). Now I created a named selection of turbine_fluid_interface (negative volume) and applied SDOF solver to it. Now when I run the simulation, it says Divergence detected in AMG solver.
So my question is: Is it necessary create a shell around turbine to apply SDOF solver to it?
Is your intent to spin the turbine at a constant prescribed speed? In that case you can use sliding mesh instead of 6DOF. Or are you trying to rotate the turbine in response to external forces, i.e. fluid-structure interaction.
