Hi, I am trying to model laser cladding in Ansys FLUENT. There are two phase: one is base metal surrounded by an inert gas (shown in the image). I want to add a cladding layer of the same metal. It is done using a mass source term in the continuity equation (shown in the image). Can someone please tell how to add a mass source term using UDF?
I can write the UDF but unable to decide where the UDF is added?

Hi Jeremie. Thanks for your answer. I have written a DEFINE_SOURCE UDF. The issue is I am unable to understand where to add this mass source in FLUENT. I have energy and momentum sources also. I add them in Cell Zone Condition. But I am unable to see any option to add a mass source.
You should be able to hook your UDF in Fluent in the "Fluid" dialog box.

Actually I do see an option for mass source also but that is visible only when I use a single phase. As you can see in my domain definition, there are two phases. When I enable two phases with VOF, the mass source term option is not visible and only energy and momentum source options are there. Also, the material I want to add using the DEFINE_SOURCE is the same as the base material.

I'm sorry, I've never used a mass source term UDF with VOF, so I think I can't help further...
To add a mass source term in the continuity equation, you modify the standard form of the continuity equation to include a term that represents the rate of mass addition per unit volume.
Rajesh Kumar Sahoo I know the mass source term. I want to know where to add the UDF for the mass source term. Since it is a two phase flow, I don't see an option to add the mass source term after compiling the UDF. I see the option for adding the energy and momentum source terms but not the mass source term. When I switch to single phase, then only I see an option to add a mass source term.
