I am planning to buy an UV Transilluminator for research work and i am bit confused with the filter nm. Could any one please suggest which nm 254, 302, 312, 365 or combined of 312&365 filter is ideal for research and also can Syber safe can also be included in that.

the above said filters are best suited especially 312, combined with 365 for EtBr fluorescence. Most vendors sell with that combination only. SYBR safe also fluoresces at same wavelength so there wont be any need for a new wavelength. so you can go for it. the question comes how you are going to capture the image. for this BioRads Gel doc i found the best with many options to save images. there are others which are not upto the mark.
The fluorescence of both Ethidium bromide and SYBR is well visible with 365 nm transilluminator. Don’t worry about filter, since the excitation wavelengths for both dyes far exceed even 365 nm anyway. In fact, common UV-transilluminators have no narrow optical filter and emit light in a broad wavelength range (from short UV to visible), and part of this spectrum covers the necessary region. Just choose a device designed for working at the longest wavelengths, i.e. 365 nm.
You can go through Versa doc (BIORAD ) manual. They are providing the various types of transilluminators for various applications.

I found that 302/312nm is best for visualizing compaq and sharp bands, though the chances of mutation is quite low but for gel cutting or longer exposure it is recommended 365nm.
