well, when i isolate the fungi from soil i use agar-agar medium, PDA(potato dextrose agar), CMA( corn meal agar) and czapeck medium and when i purify them i use just CMA, PDA and czapeck medium.
We have isolated many fungi from soil, avian excreta, milk, skin etc., on Pal sunflower seed medium, and APRM agar, which were developed by us in 1980,and 2015,respectively.These are very cheap medium for the recovery of fungi from environmental and clinical samples. You can download our many papers on fungal infections from Research Gate.
An interesting article comparing different methods for isolation of both endoparasitic and predaceous nematophagous fungi was published in Microbial Ecology 4:157-163 (http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2FBF02014285).
Methods for isolation of nematophagous fungi were also described by C. Drechsler, who worked extensively on "carnivorous" fungi:
Drechsler, Charles (1937): Some hyphomycetes that prey on free-living terricolous nematodes. Mycologia 29, 447-552
Drechsler, Charles (1941): Some hyphomycetes parasitic on free-living terricolous nematodes. Phytopathology 31 (9), 773-801
