If you are blessed with only a daughter or son the question does not arise. But if you have both you need to teat them equally!

if I have to choose between my daughter or my son to educate one of them, I choose to educate my son. A family with educated man is better.

Among the Igbos of Southeast Nigeria, particularly before the late 1960s, it was virtually a norm to prefer boys to their female siblings, no matter how brilliant the girls are. In the 1950s, my mother had to do quit elementary school for his younger brother. Nowadays, the equation has changed drastically: both now receive virtually equal attention. Like Kalpathy cleverly pointed out, even in our male-dominated society, many families (including mine) are accepting the prospects of only female child (or children).

This was a cultural issue in the past for most societies, thankfully not so common nowadays in most societies

If the child is willing and education oriented, be it male or female, than the child should be encouraged most definitely.

If the child is indifferent to education, or simply poor at it, it can be done as well. The irony here is that such children can finish their education at whatever level, and remain (or seem to be) totally unaffected by their supposed learning

And with increasing prevalence of both couples working after marriage, in western socities at least, it is something of moot point.

Moreover thanks to globalisation, mainly due to technology, there is an increasing fusion of cultures across the globe; and what applies for western cultures is now being increasingly applied in eastern cultures and vice versa.

You have to ask the youngsters too (if there is more than one). Some want to work to get experience that way, most like to study for a career.

What if you had to choose between your daughter or son to educate one of them, which one would you prefer to get educated? And why?

For me gender shouldn't be the criteria but I will rather consider other factors like their competency, interest, choice of courses, my affordability etc. Think to promote gender equality in society we should start it from home.

There you can find my answer/opinion about the question that you asked in your answer. I guess you won't be surprised by my question if you would remain within the context of it. As it is solely about if you have to choose one of your children (daughter's education or son's education) due to any factor as some scholars have identified, for example, parents affordability.

However, to mention here as well, NO I DO NOT AGREE with you that it is the time when there is no debate about daughter and son. Many societies yet does not uplift women. And if I mention it in the context of my question, then the discrimination starts from home (parents) when it comes to daughter and son education. I live in the west and here I came to know more drastic stories about parents degrading their daughters even policing on them while they are at school or going anywhere and worse of all beating them. Does it called equality? I would not mention any country's name here but that they are from Asia. I hope by living in the same region you understand it well how the discrimination occurs at home by parents in the first place. Where parents doesn't even consider how would it kill the self-confidence of their daughters if they do discriminate. And even worse stories are available to read and can be seen from naked eyes.

I hope you follow better what I mean but if you think there is an equality where I came from or where you live between women and men, then I can't agree to that.

The factors that you mentioned were my intention to discover as well as the most important thing that you mentioned was "we should start it from home" because if daughters are degraded from home by parents or male siblings they cannot grow. No matter how much we try to promote gender equality or discuss women empowerment, if daughters are not encouraged to get higher education they cannot excel. Off course there are other opportunities too which women can available in their life. However, I want to stick within the context of my question which address educating kids. I believe daughters should be given preference when it comes to choosing one of them due to any factors except if they are unwilling to study.

Why a family with an educated woman can't be better? A well educated mother can contribute more for the development of children. In my case for example, my mother was the one who taught me during my school, and I needed no extra tuition due to her. I thank her for her efforts she put in me.

Who a parent Son & Daughter are just as their are two hands & to a parents so far as education is concerned there are interested that their son & daughter both remain educated in their respective field .Besides there is every possibility ,their intelligence , inclination & habits are not the same between the son & daughter & as such the progressive arrangement of education very offer differs.

With this it is the fact that discipline ,behavior , feelings, between the son & daughter are not the same & it has been observed that daughter gets a higher stage in comparison with the son .Besides parent have to observe in above line the feeling & care taking of both to be viewed & in the advance age of the parents they have to take a justified action as after the marriage of the both the behavior of son remains the change & in certain cases the son after the marriage would prefer to stay far with parent.

In case of daughter even after her marriage she remains with her husband but daughter has not missed the loving care for the parents & in such case in advance age of parent the daughter love taking care come to the rescue for the parents .

I have always advocated for the education of both sexes. Many Ghanaian communities initially relegated education of girls to the background while glorifying boy education, which to me is insanity！Women are mothers and exerts a lot of influence on children in the society. I do want to see you your question as an "or/either" question. Education of our children should not be gender oriented. Why? As the Suiss psychologist Jean Piaget once said, only education can save societies and even individuals from possible collapse, be it violent or gradual. So, education is essential for all children and hence for my sons and daughters. Of course, education is costly, but is is far less costly than its alternative, ignorance. Also, educations should aim at giving rise to innovators and creators, not to conformist people.
