Hi Zeshan - no it wouldn't. Replication studies infer the same method and methodology being adopted as close to the original as possible. The main reason for replication is to test if, over time, if the same study was conducted again (using as close to the original parameters as possible) would things have changed because changing social, economic, political conditions might impose a different outcome. They serve to 'bring the original study up-to-date'. However, some might replicate (using exactly the same methods) against a different culture, geographical location etc to see if this has an impact on outcome. If your variables are 'entirely different' - it is unlikely to constitute replication.

I agree with Dr.Whitehead. The importance and prevalence of replication research varies greatly depending on the discipline and research area. In the so-called hard or pure sciences , for example, replication studies are common, and play an integral role in the process of testing and demonstrating the generalizability of crucial fi ndings. Gross ( 1997 ) notes two issues that support the need for replication studies in scientifi c disciplines. First, replication studies check the probability of error in the testing of null hypotheses, or the likelihood of a Type I or Type II error having been made. No. It is not replication. In replication research, the researcher walks the same path of the previous researcher, following exactly his/her trail (Especially the Methodology). It is a strategy used in testing the validity or rebut of the findings of a previous study after the situations in a study area have evolved over time. If the same study (Methodical approach) is used in the context of a different country, it would not be replication because the variables would not be constant. It would be some sort of geographical parallel research instead.

A replication means repeating a study using the same methods but with different subjects and researchers. If I understand you correctly, you modify the study design. This implies that you are no longer in a replication scenario.

Change of context doesn't mean replica study rather if you adopt research methodology and analysis techniques as close to the original as possible then one can claim that replica study is conducted. As Dean advises above, a replication study is one which uses the same methodology as the original, and comes up with the same kinds of answers; they might be exactly the same, but are more likely to differ such as to account for longitudinal change in for instance, respondents' views; but this will be a replicated study.
It is perhaps unlikely than one can exactly replicate a study by transposing it to say, a different culture, because of possible differences in respondent understandings; one could still 'nip and tuck' the study to account for these possible differences in respondent understanding, but this would not be a strict replication of the original---while still being a good study.
Hi everyone. I think I have the same problem. I have a project this term and I should replicate the work of my Professor. My problem is that I have an additional Data and I wish to know if I should implement the methodology of the Prof on the last dataset and on the new dataset?
And I find it kind of difficult because I have the impression that I will only copy and paste from the introduction to the data presentation....

Replication means repetition of the same research exactly as explained by the researcher or researchers to obtain the results. In the pure sciences deviations are inexcusable. In the social sciences deviations for cultural differences should be very negligible and inconsequential. Otherwise, the repeated work becomes a different research on its own and could be regarded as additional contribution to knowledge.
