The stone age did not end with a scarcity of stones; technological development will end the oil-based economy. Such economic processes come in eco-logical innovation cycles, like Schumpeter and Kondratieff, for example, analyzed.
The world and humanity as a whole will adapt to the new reality. History has shown that mankind has the propensity to innovate, adapt and strive against the daunting odds. Methinks this will be the case with the impending energy debacle.
Furthermore, significant investments and R&D in alternative energy production and storage technologies show promising trends. It will seem rather optimist to think renewables will provide all the world's energy needs but it help ameliorate the shocks.
Lastly, the quest for GHG mitigation will lend credence to global efforts to ensure a sustainable future present hope for future generations. As scientists we must not only project optimism but also true commitment through debates and discussions such as this. So many thanks sir.
I believe that there will always be oil availabe. New resources are continuously being discovered and are becoming economicaly viable. The question should be what will happen when we decide not to use oil.

It will be the real challenge to deal with a situation when there is no more oil. All countries are depending on oil which is exhaustible. So, alternative fuel sources have to be soughted and invented.
I think that this would save humanity from the impending catastrophe of increasing CO2 on the planet, as a result of which life would become unbearable. Therefore, I am optimistic about this event. And nevertheless, it seems to me that the catastrophe will come much earlier than the oil will disappear to Earth, since plastic and other wastes will destroy insects, fish and other living organisms on Earth, without which people can not live
NO OIL = there will be a big crisis + there will be energy wars between the countries + the countries which have another source of energy will abuse from their power + the increase of the rate of misery and poverty + good researchers will develop renewable energies with top frequency
There would, sure, a bright side to it as earth pollution would be minimized to a great extent. Innovations on the use of renewable energy will take shape, and I'm sure life would not cease to exist!
Question is very hypothetical. Still imagining there is no oil anymore, we have to look for alternate resources. Already scientists are working on several such sources. Biggest problem will be for countries that are completely dependent on oil for their economy.
The pollution is diminished is true. But there is another problem, globalization involves the use of ships to transport goods around the world. and those ships only use oil as fuel. A very big problem for the economies of the whole world ......
There must be alternatives for countries with such an anticipated problem with crude oil. Otherwise, life would be bizzare for such a country due to the over-reliance on crude oil.
When fossil fuels / oil is depleted, other forms / sources of energy will be leveraged / emphasized e.g. solar, wind, tidal waves, reservoir dam etc. There is a trend to utilize these alternatives so that we don't only dependent on oil.
Are the countries prepared to live without oil? What is the degree of dependence on oil for the world economy?
Think not all countries are fully prepared yet. How countries relying on oil is depending on numerous factors like e.g. whether the country is oil producing country, whether the country is a heavy industrialized nation that consume a lot of oil, demand & supply of oil, military & political turmoils in different regions of the world, carbon footprint / green policy of certain countries etc.
Works are already under way to develop alternatives of oil, which include biodiesel, bioalchol (methanol, ethanol and butanol), chemically stored electricity (batteries and fuel cells), hydrogen, non-fossil methane, non-fossil natural gas, vegetable oil, propane and other biomass sources.
Yes, I agree with you. Professor O. N. Srivastava of Banaras Hindu University, India has been working for several decades to develop hydrogen as a petrol substitute.
Will there come a time in the world when there there will be no waters?
No time will exist in the world when there will be no oil. Even if we find ourselves in such a situation, there will always be an alternative to oil. Maybe even more safer technologies and eco-friendly substitute for fuel.
‘According to figures provided by Costa Rica's National Centre for Energy Control, 99.62 percent of the country's electricity production is now generated from five renewable sources.
Leading the charge is hydropower, which provides 78.26 percent of Costa Rican electricity, followed by wind (10.29 percent), geothermal energy (10.23 percent), biomass and solar (0.84 percent), and hydrocarbons (0.38 percent).’
So, its just a decision, we do not need to wait for the ‘end of oil age’.
The artificial fuel will have a great progress in quality because the need of the using. Maybe it will have another way of fuel. The mechanics machines will not be stop.
There is endless oil reserves (from remains pf pre-existing animals), but not all are economic. After all the damage that oil has caused, it should be banned as many countries have done that already. Alternatives are many, everyone should find a replacement and don't wait until all the ice has melted!
