I completely disagree with this connection between Blood group and human Behaviour. And I feel sad that some people from Scientific community believe in such pseudoscience. If we look at composition of Blood its contains Red Blood Cells and White Blood Cells. Human Blood gourp is categeorised on bases of antigens that are pesent on Red blood cells. Its is also well known that RBCs lack nucleus.
So if we try to understand the basis of this theroy (Blood group and its influcence on personality ), Human behaviour will depend on the certain antigens that are present on their RBCs !!
How could that be possible ?? How RBCs carrying certain inherited antigenic substances on their surface (A, B, AB, O) can influence the behaviour of certain human being ?
If thats true then a blood transfusion from A blood group or B blood group or O blood group to AB blood grouped individual should change his personality (atleast for certain days). Which I dont think is true.
Human Personality is more dependent on his/ her upbringing. And their ability to think (which certainly is not depended on Blood group).
So such theories can only convince Astrologers who believe that birth time and birth date and birth place will have influence on Personality.
If you must know, my blood group is A positive. Quite a few researchers have this blood group. So perhaps on RG, there will be MANY of us A+ people :) But I mainly think of myself as a teacher, rather than a researcher.
In 1930s, the Japanese military investigated the connection between blood types and personality in an attempt to create ideal soldiers.Today, the relation between blood type and personality is followed closely in Japan, much like the use of sun signs to determine personality and compatibility for matchmaking.Various personality traits associated with the four different blood types under the ABO system, have been provided in the link.http://www.buzzle.com/articles/blood-type-and-personality.html
Your question reminds me of ancient theory of the humours that was popular in the Middle Ages. Until now all scientific efforts to find a simplistic and consistent model that links blood group and (one of the differing models of) "personality" failed.
In 2000 an author from Japan wisely wrote:
"We hypothesized that one of the reasons that not a few Japanese are interested in lay personality theories of ABO blood-typing and similar unsupported beliefs on human nature, was unsatisfied needs of having clear collective and personal identities. To test the hypothesis, we asked 149 married women, 34 to 62 years of age, to describe themselves as in self introduction to strangers, and then separately indicate the degree of interest in lay personality theories. We then counted the number of references to personal/private aspects (an index of personal identity) and the number to social groups whose membership was known to be exclusive and limited (an index of collective one). Results showed that those who were high on both indices were less interested in lay theories than those low on one or both of personal and collective indices."
(Nagata Y.: [Social psychological factors of interest in lay personality theories: why is ABO blood-typing popular?]. Shinrigaku Kenkyu. 2000 Dec;71(5):361-9.[Article in Japanese])
@Prof Lala, Michael, Rajaram: do you have any hypothesis at the genetic level, concerning blood group and genes that 'are expressed as personality traits'?
Dear friends, some one came along and down voted a few things that we posted. Don't get upset at all. I don't know why some people must be negative. They can actually join our discussion. It's for every one. All are welcome.
Dear friends, we wait for our other friends to join this discussion, like Bassam, Abdalla, Ravi, Ljubomir etc. The more, the merrier. Like Jaya said, perhaps this area should be researched upon. ?.
@Michael, I agree completely with your post. The connection of blood group and personality is nothing else than an april-tool joke. Its similar true like the contents of the believe on signs of the zodiacs. Amusing delusion, very scientific!
Dear Miranda, we in the western world also learn from our own folks. We learn important things and strange believes. But it´s sure that superstitions can not be proved. Thats a general principle in science that you can prove facts but you never can "antiprove" the imagined pseudo facts.
Blood groups are a matter of immun system etc. Please show me any hint of a connection of antibodies and structure of a personality!

Thanks Prashant for the clear explanation. There is an additional problem, not only one but a huge number of blood group definitions. So if you are living in the cultural surrounding A you have the personality A, in B you show B.....
I am O-. According to the links provided above tell that I should be a non-vegetarian to be healthy.
Well, I have an observation. About 5 and half year ago I decided to go strictly vegetarian. Funny fact is that I haven't spent a single penny on medicines from that day :).
When it comes to personality traits, it says I am ambitious (who is not here?), passionate (who is not here?) and a born leader. Do these traits not found in non Os?
P.S.- Heart don't have feeling and blood don't have personality.
Thank you friends for giving me the info! I'm always in the process of learning and maybe I will not arrive at a point when I can stop learning :)
Whatever it is, on RG, I upvote interesting answers and responses; they do not have to agree with my initial or even later views. Whoever came along to down vote posts could have put up some interesting posts for us to upvote, right?
Thanks Patrick and friends. Through posting this question, I get some idea that Eastern and Western medical beliefs differ somewhat. Let's be Open, ok?
I suppose Orientals also have many herbal remedies that are not practised by our friends in the west. I put a related link, thanks.
I do not agree but there are some informations about this topic.
The blood type (genetic ) may influence the behavior of people in all directions , according to the publication of James D' Adamo and Peter D' Adamo , naturopathic doctors
Together , they accumulate more than 50 years of research on blood types : predisposition to disease , influence of food, beverages and herbs , exercises indicated where I realized I could be useful for people at no charge , or simply know the blood type of people you live :
Type A - are sensitive , intelligent and smart guys who like the style of urban life and intense . Are curbing anxiety all the time , but when they explode , probably something bad has already settled within them . Need calming and relaxing exercises because when stress sets in they become paranoid and depressed and everything goes to ground staff , causing them to go beyond their duties .
Type B - The bodies of type B are more flexible than type O , A or AB , and less vulnerable to many diseases common to other blood types . They have elements of mental activity more sensitively hurried type A and purely physical reaction of type O. Are they harmonize more easily with everyone . They are tradition with the use of intelligence and peace, where 40 % of millionaires around the world are of type B.
Type AB - The type AB like to boast as Jesus Christ would have this blood type . It is the fusion of sharp and sensitive to the balanced type A and type B. The concentrated result is a somewhat eccentric nature that supports all aspects of life without being particularly aware of the consequences . It has a very strong immune system , are the most captivating and charismatic .
Type O - All this genetic type have genetic strength, endurance , confidence , courage and intuition memory , plus a natural optimism. Qualities of certainty , power, and an example of leadership taken to the extreme , always .

Dear Prof Nelson, Is this the same Eysenck of the PEN dimensions of personality? His name is Hans Eysenck and his wife is Sybil?
My blood group is A+, but I promise not to explode, even when RG friends do not agree with what I say. Everyone has a right to cling to their own beliefs. But I LEARN, that is what is important to me :))
There are also beliefs relating personality with position of stars at birth-horoscope-, lines on your hand (palmistry) etc. I am sure many of our RG friends believe in them.
Reading this from a personal point of view, it has my character down correctly. I am a scientist and wouldn't generally agree with such things, but having read it I completely agree. I too am blood group A. I am happy with the way this article describes me. Pseudoscience or normal science, in effect its a bit of harmless fun :)
@Aftab et al., I said we can't generalize because the evidence may not be enough. But it's very unusual. I have used Eysenck's personality questionnaire, while I was doing PhD. I am very interested in music and personality, though I don't make a living of either of those. Did you read Nelson's post above? :)
I'm not very interested in the question whether the behavior can be influenced by the different blood groups. I do not know anything about it. I gave a quick glance at google scholar and of course I found a little bit of everything . It is evident that there is a correlation between blood groups and cancer (only a recent and authoritative example http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20103627 ), immunology and so on. What amazed me is the tenor of the responses that tend to ridicule the question as unscientific using "unscientific methods". It would just say "I have not read scientific articles that demonstrate a correlation between blood groups and behavior" / "I read an article but is full of mistakes". Maybe it's just that one person differs from another only to have Crohn's disease, and he will probably be a little more irritable. In research there are no dogmas. And relating to pseudosciences, these are well rooted in the "official and academic science".
OK, Maurizio, let them give me a questionnaire (which I'll fill out honestly) and tell me my blood group. I've forgotten it. Is that scientific enough?
@ Michael. I already said I know nothing about blood groups and personality (if not the people with whom I interact, and often very little even in this case). I was trying to make a speech about the method, nothing more.
There appears to be a number of papers on prevalence of different diseases/health conditions in ABO blood types. Thinking about the sorts of personalities you're likely to find in different diseases it could be interesting to match up. Been looking at Dupytrens/Peyronies - Viking gene - Type A (AO) dominant to give an example. Also prostate cancer - higher risk of metastases in Type A! And what about mitochondria and cell memory? Just saying. Haven't yet met an unsuccessful blood type B! I'd heard that some companies in Japan choose workers taking into account blood type eg Type A's work well in a team, Type B's better as leader or owners of company etc. Interesting mind candy! Enjoying the points of view.....
@Aftab, I'm of the group A+, so I make it a point to relax and exercise and enjoy the SUNSETS. I just have to learn to say 'NO', for the sake of survival.
As Lyn says, I'm one of the great collaborators, but I also work alone and THINK alone. @Lyn, I'm glad that You are 'Enjoying the points of view.....'
We don't have to agree; the original question embraces those who agree AND disagree :)))
I don't particularly believe in horoscopes. But I'm not so sure about blood groups. That's why I put up the question to get views from friends on RG.
I find that discussions on RG help me to improve on the personality dimension 'Openness' on the Big Five Personality Theory. I learn to accept and find humor in our similarities and differences.
I personally feel and realized that destiny play a strong role. Of course, it all depends on your involvement, dedication, hard work , situations and circumstances, your decisions at right time, your skill, your learning aptitude and so on. As far as personality is concerned, it all depends upon so many personal attributes and not on blood groupings. A real personality includes, what one wishes to be, how one wishes to appear, how one appears to others and how one appears to himself/herself.
