We administer CCl4 to Rats while inducing hepatotoxicity after mixing it with olive oil is it only because it is vehicle. If so why not use other oils like sunflower oil or Arachis oil....If not then what is the purpose of olive oil here
Olive oil is an emulsifying agent and it dissolves sufficiently to CCl4 to induce liver damage and also that olive oil has no toxicity and other biological or pharmacological activity with regard to liver damage (hepatotoxicity). As we know that CCl4 is a standard hepatotoxic agent.
Yes, olive oil serve as a vehicle for CCl4 and protect other cells from damage until CCl4 get to it's target site (Liver). This is because without olive oil supplementation, any ml of CCl4 will instantly kill the rat after induction.
