It is known that plasmon resonance effect is seen when a light of wavelength greater than the size of the nanoparticle is shined upon. However, what would happen when different light of wavelength, both smaller and greater than the size of the nanoparticle is shined upon it?
Depends what you do exactly:
- for low-intensity irradiation, the wavelength which doesn't excite anything in your material will still not excite anything and only the excitation-capable wavelength will matter.

When the frequency of the external field coincides with the frequency of the localized surface plasmon, a resonance arises, which leads to a sharp increase in the field on the surface of the particle and an increase in the extinction cross section.
If two waves of different frequencies are propagating in the same direction are added together, their amplitudes would alternately add up and cancel out. Alternating constructive and destructive interferences occur. As a result, they would form wave packets known as beats.
In this case, there will be no resonance.
