In our current project we are using the HCT116 p53-/- cells originally created by homologous recombination by Bunz et al. (1998).  However, despite my best efforts I've been unable to find out the exact status of the p53 allele(s) in this strain, and whether any of the p53 gene remains.

Has anyone out there sequenced/mapped the exact sequence/structure of the p53 locus in this cell line, or know of any resources that might be able to provide it?

The original paper only states that the line was created by recombining in hygromycin and/or neomycin cassettes, with the start codon of the resistance cassettes aligned with the start codon of the tp53 gene.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
