There are numerous papers that when autophagy-lysosome pathway is disturbed and the accumulated autophagosomes without the fusion with the lysosome is observed, the cells undergo apoptosis pathway rather than “autophjagic cell death.” Autophagic cell death is defined as the cell death due to the excessive autophagy (self-degradation). Autophagic cell death is also known as to be inhibited by the treatment with 3-MA. On the other hand, when autophagy-lysososme pathway is disrupted, cells fail to undergo smooth or normal autophagy, in which the flux of the autophagy is stopped.
Does anyone know the critical molecule which induces apoptosis or activated caspase 3 when autophagy flux is stopped?
