I will be extracting mRNA, miRNA, and protein from human adipose tissue using the miRNeasy mini kit and the RNeasy mini elute cleanup kit. After phase separation I want to store the proteins obtained for long-term. What solution would be best for this? I was thinking a simple PBS solution. Downstream analysis consists of ELISA. Thank you in advance

Hi Mikey,
I would estimate/quantify the protein concentration in the extracted materials. It is not a good practice to freeze/thaw proteins so you will need to store a few concentration levels (1ug/ul or 10ug/ul) in aliquots bearing in mind your future experiments.
PBS sounds like a good solution to make dilutions and storage of your preparation.

1. If your protein conformation is important then I would store in aliquots in PBS plus 10% glycerol at -80C
2. If conformation/activity is less important I would store in PBS at -20C for a few months or -80c if your plan is store for more than 1 year but if you do elect to store in aliquots for more than 1 year do not freeze thaw those aliquots more than 2-3x
