I have been using FACAria II (upgraded later to III) for the last 9 years to sort from yeast, to bacteria to mammalian cells. Specially after the fluidic upgrade, I really cannot complain about the instrument. In my current company we have been thinking about buying a new cell sorter. The Aria is at the top of our wish-list but I would like to know if anybody has used instruments with similar performances, in term of quality of the sort, event rate etc. etc.
I think it would be very hard to name a "best" cell sorter our there - this very much depends on the type of application that you are aiming for. The BD FACSAria platform has been widely used and is very robust and versatile, but comes at a certain price tag. I would also consider other instruments, such as the Sony SH800 for ease of use, or the BC Astrios.

We have also been using the Sony SH800. It is very easy to use but definitely not comparable with the Aria performance, specially in terms of event per second that you can sort with very good specificity and yield. I am also not a huge fan of the Sony software. I will look at the link. Thanks
