For a pharmacological and another pathway study related to Alzheimer's disease (such as those including building animal models), what is the best animal choice? The mice or the rats? If it is the mice, which type (ICR, C57, KUNMING)? If it is the rat, what is also the best subtype ?
Dear Ghanemi, for the AD study in mice better choice is C57, swiss albino and for rat Wistar and Sprague Dawly is good choice
Mice are very good learners. They are better for AD studies. Specifically C57BL/6J transgenic mice are useful. See the attached file for more details.
For normal studies involving learning and memory, rats are good. Sprague dawley rats gave promising results in my studies.
In general mice are better due to the availability of transgenic mice.
Mice is better, because it is easy to do genetic modification. Many transgenic mouse lines and other resources will be available for your research.
