I would like to determine WAI and WSI but i recognised that there are different formulas for them in some articles.
For example, while formula of WAI is explained
WAI% =((Weight of centrifuge tube and sample - Centrifuge tube) / Weight of sample )* 100 in one article (principle= 2.5 g of sample in a poyethylene tube. 30 mL of distilled water were added and stirred with sample, water bath with 25 C for 20 min. centrifuged at 5000 rpm for 10 min.
The water was then decanted from the tube without loss of solids.
Finally, the tube and residues were weighed out and calculated)
the other is explained WAI = weight of sediment / weight of dry solids (principle=Each sample
(1 g) sample in 6ml of distilled water and stirred for 30 min at 30 C temperature.The dispersions were centrifuged at 4000 g for 20 min using The supernatants were poured into dry test tubes and stored overnight at 110 C for the process of evaporation.
Fırst equation sounds wrong. Maybe i think wrongly. Could u explain ?
there may be spelling mistake regarding the 1st equation if you add an E it will be correct
centrifugee which might be used stand for the over tails of the centrifugation process

If I understand your explanation, I think you are lacking the weight of the tube. I think the WAI is just gram of water absorbed per gram of sample. If you have recorded the tube weight as W1, the original sample weight as W2, and the weight of the gell as W3 [W3=W2-W1], then the WAI (g/g) = (W3-W2)÷W2. Good luck.
I recorded weight of tubes. I got your explanation but i would like to give an example to be sure. For example tube weight is 10 g, sample is weighed 2 gram. After i apply the metot i remove supernetant and obtain weight of gel 20 g. Calculation of WAI is
Weight of gel - ( weight of sample + weight of tube ) = 20-(10+2) =8
WAI= 8 / weight of sample = 8/2=4

That looks correct! Sorry I forgot to reply on the WSI. Now if you recorded the weight of the test tube/tin/petridish as W4, and that of the thin and dried suspention after the water is dried off, as W5 then your WSI (%) = [(W5-W4)÷W2]×100. I hope this helps.
